이임사 (Farewell Address)

이제 2011년 6월 첫주일 부터 시작된 15년 여간의 라피엣 지역 교회사역을 저희 부부가 마무리해야 하는 시간이 되었습니다. 그동안 저희 부부가 이곳에서 사역한 열매나, 저희 부부의 연약함으로 비록된 그 부작용은 저희가 떠나고 나면 그 결과가 선명히 드러나리라 생각합니다. 저희들의 부족했던 부분은 앞으로 김종인목사님께서 지혜롭게 잘 채워주시리라 믿습니다.
하지만 이 자리를 떠나기 전에 15년간의 사역 중에 여러분들의 기도와 섬김을 통해 저희 부부와 자녀들과 저희 가족들이 어떤 복을 받았는지 나누고자 합니다.
먼저 여러분들의 간절한 기도를 통해 저희 어머니와 아버지께서 예수 그리스도를 주인으로 모시고 천국으로 가셨습니다. 저희 집안의 제사문화가 추모예배 문화로 완전히 바뀌었습니다. 혼자 기도하며 20여년간 외로운 전쟁을 해도 이루지 못했었는데 여러분들이 함께 기도해주시고 수고해 주셔서 주님께서 응답해 주심으로 저의 간절 소원이 이뤄졌음에 감사를 드립니다.
그리고 여기 사역을 시작 할 때 건강이 좋지 않았던 사모가 15년 간의 사역을 통해 건강이 많이 회복되어 과거 사모를 아는 지인들이 놀라워합니다. 그리고 사모가 진심으로 15년간의 목회 경험을 통해 많이 배우고 성장해가고 있음을 스스로 고백하게 하시니 감사합니다.
저희 자녀들이 여기에 올때는 고등학생, 중등학생, 초등학생 이었는데, 지난 5월에 막내까지 대학을 졸업하고 건강하고 씩씩한 사회인으로 자라가고 있음에 감사를 드립니다.
주일 예배시간 기도때 마다 저희 부부와 자녀들과 가정을 위해 여러분이 우리 아버지 하나님께 드린 기도 감사하게 기억하고 있습니다. 그 기도가 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 않고 저희 가정에 이뤄졌고 지금 이뤄지고 있음을 보며 교회의 기도에 진심으로 감사를 드립니다.
끝으로 부족한 저를 말씀 전하는 자로 불러 주시고 세워 주셔서 저의 연약함이 여러 곳에서 드러났지만 사랑으로 감싸주시고 참아 주셔서 여기까지 오게하시고 많은 것들을 배우며 성장하게 해 주셔서 감사를 드립니다. 여러분들에게 큰 사랑의 빛만 지고 떠나는 것 같습니다. 신실하신 주님께서 여러 분들이 저희 가정에 보여주신 기도와 사랑을 김종인목사님 가정에 그 이상으로 보여 주심으로 김목사님 부부가 라파예트 한인교회를 주님이 주목해 보시는 더욱 아름답고 건강한 교회로 인도해가시는데 힘을 모아 주시기를 바랍니다. 여러분 하나님은 살아 계시고 여러분을 다 보고 계십니다. 그 믿음 가지고 주님 다시 오실 날을 고대하며 남은 시간들을 깨어서 살아가시기를 당부드립니다.

Farewell Address

The time has come for my wife and me to conclude our ministry in the Lafayette area, which began on the first Sunday of June 2011 and has spanned over 15 years. I believe that once we have left, the results—whether the fruits of our ministry here or the negative consequences stemming from our own weaknesses—will become clearly evident. I believe that Pastor JongIn Kim will wisely and effectively fill in the gaps where we fell short.
However, before leaving this place, I would like to share the blessings that my wife, our children, and our entire family have received through your prayers and service during these 15 years of ministry.
First, through your earnest prayers, my mother and father accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and have gone to heaven. The tradition of ancestral rites in our family has been completely transformed into a culture of Christian memorial services. Even after fighting a lonely battle in prayer for over 20 years, I could not achieve this on my own; but thanks to your prayers and efforts, the Lord answered, and my heartfelt wish was fulfilled—for which I am deeply grateful.
Furthermore, my wife, who was in poor health when we began this ministry here, has recovered significantly over the course of 15 years of ministry, to the amazement of acquaintances who knew her in the past. I am also grateful that the Lord has led her to sincerely acknowledge how much she has learned and grown through these 15 years of pastoral experience.
When our children first came here, they were in high school, middle school, and elementary school, but I am grateful that even our youngest graduated from college last May and is growing into a healthy and spirited member of society.
I gratefully remember the prayers you offered to our Heavenly Father for my wife, our children, and our family during the prayer time at every Sunday worship service. Seeing that not a single one of those prayers has fallen to the ground but has been answered in our family—and continues to be answered—I offer my sincere gratitude for the church’s prayers.
Finally, I am grateful that you called and established me—though I am unworthy—as a preacher of the Word. Even though my weaknesses were exposed in many ways, you enveloped me in love, bore with me, brought me this far, and enabled me to learn and grow so much. It feels as though I am leaving, carrying with me only the light of your great love. I pray that the faithful Lord will show Pastor JongIn Kim’s family even more of the prayer and love that you have shown our family, and that you will join together in supporting Pastor Kim and his wife as they lead the Lafayette Korean Church to become an even more beautiful and healthy church that the Lord takes special notice of. God is alive and sees everything you do. I urge you to hold fast to that faith, look forward to the day the Lord returns, and live the rest of your days with vigilance.
